Project Wittenberg is an online archive of Lutheran documents. It is home to works by and about Martin Luther and other Lutherans. Project Wittenberg is the first step towards an international electronic library of Lutheranism.
Here is how the official website describes it:
“Project Wittenberg is an ad hoc group of individuals dedicated to
posting on the internet a cross-
texts written by Lutherans. The project arose from the frustration
felt by these librarians, archivists, scholars, pastors and
others. A thorough search of the internet yielded few works by
even Martin Luther, founder of Lutheranism, translator of the
Bible, shaper of the German language, and a catalyst in the events
that shaped the formation of modern western civilization.”
This is a similar project to Project Gutenberg ;which digitizes, archives and distributes cultural works; but the difference is Project Wittenberg’s focus is strictly religious material.
